Weapons in Pa Kua: The Forms & Training

Weapons training is one of the most structured and disciplined arts within Pa Kua. It builds focus, control, and respect — and it’s introduced carefully, so students progress safely.

Why Weapons Matter in Pa Kua

Training with weapons sharpens everything else: your precision, your timing, and your discipline. Because edged weapons demand total control, these are among the most focused classes in Pa Kua — and that focus carries back into every other art.

The Weapons You’ll Learn

Training begins with the curved saber and the knife — the foundation — and advances step by step to weapons of greater technical complexity, including the Jian (straight sword) and the spear, among others. Each weapon has its own character and teaches its own lessons.

  • Curved saber — the starting point, building the fundamentals of edge control.
  • Knife — close-range precision and awareness.
  • Jian sword — the classic straight sword, demanding finesse and focus.
  • Spear — range, structure, and whole-body power.

How Training Progresses

Weapons are introduced gradually and always in a safe, controlled environment. You start with the basics and add complexity only as your control grows — developing the body and the mind together.

When Students Begin

Weapons come as your foundation develops. Build your fundamentals first, and the blade becomes a natural extension of everything you’ve learned.
